Euterpe, Thalia, Erato, and Calliope - as if in a scene from a Jane Austen novel, we let the muses gift us!Around the freshly restored Seuffert Fortepiano (1825) we experience an evening full of poetry of the Romantic period: mythological, anacreontic and musical. But not only past music is heard - Anders Muskens juxtaposes it with his current compositions, exploring the timelessness of human feeling through ancient and modern techniques, themes and styles. At the center are three songs by Louis Spohr: "Sei still mein Herz," "Zwiegesang" and "Das heimliche Lied" framed by cantatas by Haydn: "Arianna a Naxos," and Muskens: "The Triumph of Glory." The ensemble is recruited from members of the New Mannheim Orchestra (DNMO), founded in The Hague in late 2016 by Canadian harpsichordist and fortepianist Anders Muskens with the goal of recapturing the spirit of music from the time of the original Mannheim Court Orchestra.
